Great for Chanelophiles like myself. Lots of photos, and a great read. Love it.
In a way Chanel lived ahead of her time, on the other hand she had a perfect sense how to translate that into the time she was living. she was not what one would call beautiful, but the woman had style and she knew knew how to work powerful men, a priceless talent in her day and unfortunitely to this day.
It reads interesting, capturing the reader's attention. This book is very fascinating about the life of Coco Chanel.
Mademoiselle Chanel was quite a woman, She totally invented herself, she was her best creation. The old photographs are interesting, as well.
I was pleasantly surprised and not at all bored by her life story and the manner in which it was told. Not only beautifully written, it gives you a perfect picture of a fascinating era and a fascinating woman.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
The book does talk about her loves, but on a very generic level. This is a "good" book, but to call it "Chanel and her World" is not accurate. The author started to talk about her illustrious love affair with Boy, and then it just sort of fizzled, and then a chapter later it was stated that Boy died. While it does have great pictures, it is more of an overview of her life and the era she lived in. I had presumed this would be more of an in-depth recollection of her life, her love affairs, and what made her passionate about life. But there was nothing in between on their famous relationship. For example again, there was mention on the infamous Emilienne D'Alencon, but again just an over view.Would I purchase again. Probably not - would just borrow or possibly check out from library.
beautifully written and thorough. the book came in new condition. it is an excellent read and full of gorgeous, vivid pictures painting the image of the life and times of Chanel. if you are a fan of the reknown designer or not, you will be after you read through the biography of her life well written by Edmonde Charles-Roux. a book to pass down to your children or to keep for your own private library to read over and over again.
This is a book of someones lifewhich is something that is so interesting.I would have loved to have known her. What a life she had.
